Declaring belief in one God (Allah) and that Muhammad is His messenger.

  • 2
    Salah (Prayer)

Performing the five daily prayers as a direct connection with Allah.

  • 3
    Zakat (Charity)

Giving a portion of your wealth to those in need each year.

  • 4
    Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan)

Fasting from dawn to sunset during the holy month of Ramadan.

  • 5
    Hajj (Pilgrimage)

Making the journey to Makkah at least once in a lifetime, if able.

New Muslim Basics

If you are new to Islam, here are some simple starting points. Take it one step at a time.

  • Belief in One God (Allah)

The core of Islam is believing in and worshiping the One Creator of all things.

  • Following the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Learning from his example of kindness, honesty, and devotion to God.

  • Learning How to Pray (Salah)

Start with the basics and build your way up — our community is here to help you learn.

  • Reading the Quran (Start Small)

Begin with short chapters and an English translation — even a few verses a day is a great start.

  • Finding a Supportive Community

Visit a local masjid, attend community events, and connect with fellow Muslims who can support you.
